How to do the Rope Braid Hairstyle

The day has finally arrived. We’re officially launching braidwear.com through our very first blog post – The Rope Braid Hairstyle.

There’s no better way to start a hairstyle blog than featuring a timeless hairstyle. It has been around for ages, yet changes in society or fashion have not affected people’s perception of it. To this date, it’s still considered trendy and stylish.

I guess that’s a testament to how good it is as a hairstyle. Some call it Twist braid or 2 Strand braid, whatever name you want to call it, there’s no denying its ageless beauty,

Just because it looks simple doesn’t always mean it’s less and bland. As a matter of fact, it’s the simplicity of this style that gives it that distinctive clean yet gorgeous look that entices women to wear it. Personally, I prefer it’s simplistic appeal over the more sophisticated and sometimes over-the-top hairdo (Example – Fishtail braid).

Despite its plain & transparent nature, the fashion world actually considers it stylish and attractive. In addition to its stylish look, it is a very versatile style useful and appropriate for most, if not all, occasions. People who are tired of using the french or fishtail braid, find solace in the rope braid.

It’s the perfect hairstyle to start with. I think it’s the best hairstyle to get into the nitty and gritty of styling hair. As a matter of fact, we hold it in such high regard that inspired us to make it the topic of our first blog. If you’re a total beginner then you’re in luck because it’s a guarantee that you’ll add this to your styling repertoire. Experienced “braiders”, we want you to be reminded of how good a style the rope braid is, a trip down memory lane when you first learned how to braid, that happy moment when you felt really good about the hairstyle you made for yourself or for a friend.

There’s no shortage of stunning braid hairstyles, for long hair and short hair alike. There are actually too many hairstyles nowadays, as a result, what’s considered good today doesn’t necessarily mean it’s still good tomorrow. One thing for sure, the rope braid will keep its glory when other styles are deemed out of fashion. Let’s get to it!

Do-it-yourself: Rope braid hairstyle

Preparation: We want a tangle-free, clean and organized hair. Do not shy away from brushing your hair with a comb/hairbrush until it’s soft. Think of it as having a clean station to work with. This will make the process easier and in order.

Step one: Gather the hair

  • Gather the hair in the back of the head.

Step two: Split into two and twist

  • Split the hair into two equal sections: the left strand and the right strand. Twist both strands in the same direction. (For the purpose of the tutorial, twist the strands to the right.)

Step three: Cross the sections

  • Cross the right strand over the left strand in the opposite direction from the twisting process from step 2. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Twist the strands going to the right and cross them over each other in the opposite direction. Repeat until you reach the ends of the hair.

Step four: Finish and secure the braid

  • Finish by using a tie (small elastic, ribbon, etc) to hold the hair in place.

The important thing to remember is to twist the sections in the same direction and crossing them in the opposite direction. It’s going to be easy when you get used to the motion. You’ll know you’re doing it right when the hair resembles a 2 strand rope-like pattern.

Considering the looks, usefulness, and difficulty of this style. How would you score the Rope braid using a scale of 5? Please let us know what you think in the comments!
