To put it simply, it’s your regular rope braid folded and twisted to look like a well-put-together look.
The braid-and-bun hairstyle is stylish and at the same time perfect for getting the hair out of your face in a fashionable manner. We’ve put together a string of steps to help you learn this style.
Do-it-yourself: Braid-and-bun hairstyle
Preparation: We want a tangle-free, clean and organized hair. Do not shy away from brushing your hair with a comb/hairbrush until it’s soft. Think of it as having a clean station to work with. This will make the process easier and in order.
Part one: Make the Rope braid hairstyle
Step one.one: Gather the hair
Gather the hair in the back of the head.
Step two: Split into two and twist
Split the hair into two equal sections: the left strand and the right strand. Twist both strands in the same direction. (For the purpose of the tutorial, twist the strands to the right.)
Step three: Cross the sections
Cross the right strand over the left strand in the opposite direction from the twisting process from step 2.
Repeat steps 2 and 3: Twist the strands going to the right and cross them over each other in the opposite direction. Repeat until you reach the ends of the hair.
Step four: Finish and secure the braid
Finish by using a tie (small elastic, ribbon, etc) to hold the hair in place.
The important thing to remember is to twist the sections in the same direction and crossing them in the opposite direction. It’s going to be easy when you get used to the motion. You’ll know you’re doing it right when the hair resembles a 2 strand rope-like pattern.
Part two: Turn the braid into a bun
Pull up the braid and twist them around the ponytail. Secure the bun with a hairpin/bobby pin.
